I saw a picture of comedian Tig Notaro with her newborn twins.  I rushed onto Google to find out more info. My first thought was “did they get a surrogate or did her wife carry the twins?”

And then I stopped myself.

It’s really none of my business how they got pregnant and birthed their babies.

It’s none of my business how you got pregnant and will birth your baby or babies.

For our same sex clients, we want to assure you that we will not ask you private questions about how you became pregnant. And you don’t have to share the details of your fertility journey unless you want to.

We are just so happy that you are happy you are expecting.

Our goal is to support your pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey with compassion, warmth, lots of good humour and not one little bit of judgment.

At Hamilton Family Doulas you will find LGBTQ+ friendly prenatal classes that are also the best prenatal class available in the area.  We’re not kidding.  These classes are so good we’ve even taught the midwifery students at McMaster!  You’ll find totally judgment-free birth support where you get to decide what the best kind of birth is and we’ll support you all the way.  That acceptance and unbiased support will follow you into the postpartum period where we will be there to support your preferred feeding method and help you to discover and develop your own parenting style.

So, I won’t ask you what way you got pregnant or discuss your reasons for welcoming a surrogate into your journey to parenthood.

But if you decide to tell me, I’m going to love hearing the story of how you decided to build the family you’ve been dreaming about.
